Reality Check: A Second American Revolution??? (Part Two)

In the first part of this series about the growing sense of impending revolution we looked at the source of the Federal Government's power and asked if they have overstepped that power.

Since most people agree that the Federal Government is operating well outside of the power granted to it by The Constitution, the next logical question is, "What can we do about it?"...Once again, The Constitution gives us the answer. The First Amendment gives us the right to protest and petition congress for redress of our grievances. If the federal government over-steps the boundaries of it's power, as granted in The Constitution, we may protest those actions and ask congress to correct the problem. The real question for us is this, "As a nation, have we protested and petitioned congress, and did congress listen and respond to us?"  I don't think there are too many people who would argue that the Nation is Not protesting....There is a heck of a lot of protesting for all types of issues. Border control and immigration enforcement is one of the duties of the Federal Government that is specifically spelled out in The Constitution. As is sound monetary policy and national defense. I doubt you will find a reference in The Constitution to address mandatory health care. There are those who argue that it falls under "promote the general welfare," and this is the argument used for all federal welfare and entitlement programs, but that statement is in the Preamble and is in reference to WHY we are writing the Constitution and not to a power granted to the government.

So have we protested and petitioned for redress of grievances?  I think most people would agree that with the current "Tea Party" movement that calls for Smaller Government, Lower Taxes, and Less Government Spending, along with the public protests on Immigration Policy, the Public Outcry over the New Health Care Legislation, the Wars the country can No Longer Afford to Fight (not that we shouldn't, but that we can't) and The Rapidly Deteriorating Economic Nightmare, there has been plenty of protesting and petitioning going on.

Are they listening? When The President of the United States laughs and says he hasn't heard of The Tea Party Movement...When more than 60% of The People opposed the Health Care Reform Bill and the majority party forces it through congress without even giving the minority party (or The People) time to read the 2700 page monster, and the President signs it without regard to public outcry...When nearly 70% of the country, and 80% of the State of Arizona, approves of Arizona's state immigration law and the Administration sues the state to stop it while allowing a foreign country's President to address OUR congress and berate the entire country...When the DOJ refuses to enforce laws because they don't like them...When the Patriot Act is not only extended but expanded when we wanted our privacy back...When The Department of Homeland Security labels common citizens as terrorists and calls for monitoring us...When The Speaker of the House suggests looking into Who is funding these protests...I think it is safe to say that our government is hearing us just fine. They are just choosing to ignore all the little people. We have protested and asked for redress of grievances and The Federal Government has chosen to IGNORE us, label us as terrorists, and invade our privacy.

In Part Three of this series we will examine if there is any alternative left to revolution.
